They are not just copied from MOE’s standard 词语表.

Instead, we selected vocab from:

• The past 7 years of top school prelim papers and PSLEs

• Words that appear often, even if not in the standard textbook lists

This includes words like “神态” which combine known words but aren’t directly listed — exactly the kind of word that trips students up. 神 is from Primary 5, Chapter 15 and when students learn 度 in Primary 6, Chapter 9, they will be taught 态度 .

汉语拼音 in Green: means the words are read similarly due to borrowing of sound from one word. In this case, they borrow “扁” -ian

Words in Blue: As above. Students are able to deduce how to read the word because of the “borrowing” of sound. Example 撒 sa- borrow the sound from 散 san.

偏旁部首 in Red: Means that the word is associated the 偏旁。 Example. 编 Is weaving, using rope/string, thus related to 绞丝旁。
